Effective spatialised sonic storytelling is crucial to making a VR experience believable. The core concepts of spatial audio will be explored in an effort to demystify the approach for sound in Virtual Reality. This meet up will include presentations by Sound Designer and Composer Stephan Schütze and Sound Designer Brendan Croxon. They will focus on topics such as spatialisation, ambisonics and binaural audio, as well as creative and technical considerations for pre and post production. They will also touch on the latest hardware and software developments within the VR audio industry.

Presenters
Stephan Schütze has worked in the game industry for nearly 18 years and been a musician for closer to 30. He composed the first fully orchestral Australian game score, recorded by Melbourne Symphony. He has worked on nearly every game platform available for the last 15 years across a broad range of genres and styles.
In 2008 Stephan co-founded his own company, Sound Librarian, with his wife Anna. Sound Librarian produces commercial sound effects libraries for the game industry, Sound Librarian libraries can be found in every EA and Activision studio worldwide. They also produce education and training material for the games industry as well as continuing to work in game audio production for game projects. |
Brendan Croxon is an experienced Sound Designer and Mixer working on local, national and International productions. He has over 13 years of experience in all aspects of audio post production including sound design, dialogue editing, Foley, ADR, location recording and re-recording mixing.
Brendan also has extensive knowledge of Ambisonic spatial audio having worked in the format for over 10 years. He has traveled both nationally and internationally gathering ambisonic recordings and has applied these recordings in post production for use in over 100 productions. In recent years Brendan has applied this knowledge and experience to Virtual Reality and 360 videos. He has developed a deep understanding of the techniclal and creative challenges of audio within VR to successfully complete various projects. |
